Abstract

Arachnophobia, an irrational fear of spiders, is prevalent in the United States. The black widow spider, despite being numerous and highly venomous, is often found in close proximity to humans with little contact. Although no reported bites from males have been recorded, they are generally peaceful and rarely bite humans.
