Termination and Renewal of Agricultural Leases in Tennessee

Publish Date: July 06 2021
Abstract
An agricultural lease allows tenants to possess property for a limited time, with the term expiring at the end. Termination can occur through default, voluntary surrender and acceptance, or a condition agreed upon in the lease agreement. Tennessee's law on terminating or renewing oral agricultural leases is unclear, but a written agreement with clear terms and conditions can avoid problems. This publication provides educational information and guidelines for landowners and tenants. If legal advice or other professional assistance is required, the services of a competent professional should be sought.
