Person

Ricky Xuqi Chen

Assistant Professor | Agricultural and Resource Economics
Overview

I would generally define myself as a behavioral economist, who also used marketing-related methods to study human behavior in general and specifically related to health and nutrition issues. My research aims to determine how people make decisions as individuals and as groups/organizations, enabling companies and stakeholders to predict future trends in different markets and develop more effective marketing strategies. The research outcome provides pivotal information concerning the consumer decision-making process of healthy versus unhealthy food products, helping government agencies in evaluating food labeling programs and nutrition policies. Recently, I am particularly interested in studying online shopping behavior utilizing data/text mining and machine learning to extend the knowledge of the food industry in a new era.
