UT Extension Provides Ideas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Tips for Parents and Advice to Curb Stress-eating<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KNOXVILLE, Tenn. \u2013 Most of the country is sequestered in\ntheir homes to flatten the COVID-19 curve and protect communities. This\nphenomenon has produced many hilarious social media posts from parents\nattempting to homeschool their children and from people who are stress-eating\ntheir entire COVID-19 grocery runs. Both of these issues are areas where\nUniversity of Tennessee Extension can offer advice to assist parents and to\ncurb appetites for snacks as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe kids are out of school, adults are working from home,\nand social distancing has everyone quite bored,\u201d says Christopher T. Sneed,\nassistant professor with UT Extension. \u201cThis is the situation many Americans\nfinds themselves in these days. But, parents can take advantage of this time to\nteach their children about money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sneed has co-authored a new UT Extension publication along\nwith Ann A. Berry and Marci Hethmon, all from the Department of Family and\nConsumer Sciences. <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.tennessee.edu\/publications\/Documents\/D82.pdf\">Learning While\nAway from School: Resources for Teaching Children About Money<\/a> (Publication D 82) provides six online resources for parents\nwith lessons and activities about personal finance and planning, saving and\ninvesting, and how to use credit.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany people in our nation are experiencing extreme levels of\nstress right now, with health concerns, layoffs and routines disrupted,\u201d says\nKristin Johnson, nutrition specialist with UT Extension. \u201cThis can lead to\novereating and eating to satisfy emotional needs rather than hunger,\u201d continues\nthe expert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A publication from UT Extension nutrition expert Kristen\nJohnson can help families tempted to snack through their grocery runs in a\nshort time span. <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.tennessee.edu\/publications\/Documents\/D83.pdf\">Eating Well\nDuring Stressful Times<\/a> (Publication\nD 83) offers tips and suggestions to choose healthy snacks and asks questions\nto help consumers identify when they begin to overeat or eat due to stress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other publications and resources to help families navigate\nthe COVID-19 crisis are available online at <a href=\"https:\/\/utextension.tennessee.edu\/\">utextension.tennessee.edu<\/a> or by contacting your local county Extension office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through its land-grant mission\nof research, teaching and extension, the University of Tennessee Institute of\nAgriculture touches lives and provides Real.
