Horticulture Icon Michael Dirr to Speak<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u200bJACKSON, Tenn. \u2013 Just because the weather will soon be turning cooler does not mean your time in the garden is drawing to a close. There are lots of great plants that will keep your landscape beautiful for months to come, and many of them will be available at the University of Tennessee Gardens, Jackson, Fall Plant Sale on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

More than a plant sale, the event will also feature gardening lectures from one of the nation\u2019s leading experts on woody plants, Michael Dirr. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. CDT, Dirr will kick off the event with a special gardening presentation. Following Dirr’s talk, the plant sale will open promptly at 3 p.m., remaining open until 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

At the sale, shoppers will find an array of plants ideal for this region, including trees and shrubs, some of which were developed by Dirr. A wide selection of pansies and other plants for fall and winter interest will also be available. UT Gardens’ staff and local Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer plant questions.

After the sale closes at 6:30 p.m., all guests are invited to attend the Madison County Master Gardeners\u2019 meeting and potluck meal where Dirr will once again share gardening stories and insights. Shoppers who plan to stay for the Master Gardeners\u2019 meeting are asked to bring a dish to share. Drinks will be provided. The garden lectures are sponsored by the Madison County Master Gardeners.

\u200bThe UT Gardens plant collections located in Knoxville, Jackson and Crossville are collectively designated as the official botanical garden for the State of Tennessee. The collections are part of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, and the Gardens\u2019 mission is to foster appreciation, education and stewardship of plants through garden displays, educational programs and research trials. The Gardens are open during all seasons and free to the public.
