{"id":181,"date":"2019-07-09T13:12:30","date_gmt":"2019-07-09T13:12:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/utia-dev.tennessee.edu\/news\/?p=181"},"modified":"2019-08-23T15:45:05","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T15:45:05","slug":"animal-assisted-therapy-program-to-hold-meeting-for-potential-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/utia-dev.tennessee.edu\/news\/animal-assisted-therapy-program-to-hold-meeting-for-potential-volunteers\/","title":{"rendered":"Animal-assisted Therapy Program to Hold Meeting for Potential Volunteers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Open to anyone interested in volunteering with their dog, cat, or rabbit&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A free&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vetmed.tennessee.edu\/outreach\/Documents\/MeetingAnnouncements\/HABIT_InfoMeeting_8-14-19_Knoxville.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">informational meeting<\/a>&nbsp;for those interested in becoming volunteers with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/vetmed.tennessee.edu\/outreach\/Pages\/habit_home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Human Animal Bond in Tennessee (HABIT)\u200b<\/a>, an animal-assisted therapy program, will be held at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine Wednesday, August 14, 2019, from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HABIT is a non-profit group of volunteers working together to promote the bond between people and animals.&nbsp; As a program of the UT College of Veterinary Medicine, HABIT sponsors animal-assisted therapy programs for all ages in a variety of settings such as nursing and retirement homes, assisted living centers, hospitals, physical rehabilitation centers, and area schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The volunteer orientation\/informational meeting will take place in room A118 at the college which is located on the UT agricultural campus at 2407 River Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee, 37996.&nbsp; Parking is available in Lot 66 located behind the veterinary college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For liability purposes, attendance at an informational meeting is required before a person can become a HABIT volunteer.&nbsp; Attendance does not imply any obligations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Please do not bring any pets to this meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This meeting is open to anyone with a general interest in animal-assisted therapy. There is no fee or advanced registration required. However, please call the HABIT office (865-974-5633) if you plan to attend to ensure enough handouts are available.
