Education happens at every level of the Institute of Agriculture: whether you’re a 4-H’er in Anderson County, an Extension Master Gardener in Middle Tennessee, or a student in the Herbert College of Agriculture or College of Veterinary Medicine.
For students, a sense of community and small campus feel sets the Herbert College of Agriculture apart. On a recent trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, students explored Appalachian history and culture together. 
The Smith Center for International Sustainable Agriculture fosters relationships around the globe. As part of AGNR 491 Spring Break to Guatemala, students learned from local farmers about issues affecting their crops. 
Each year the Cherokee Hotshots Wildland Fire Suppression Crew visit UTIA to provide wildland firefighter training to students in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries. The Hotshots provide in-depth training on all aspects of wildland firefighting, which is one of the most demanding types of firefighting. The course includes classroom lessons, a physical fitness test, and hands-on experience in the field.
